As Director, I am pleased to welcome you to our Research Institute.

(Invitation to Research Higher Degree candidates)

The Institute for Health and Social Science Research (IHSSR) has been recognised nationally and internationally as a provider of high quality health and social research that contributes to understanding and improving the well-being and health of communities, families and individuals in Central Queensland and elsewhere.

The Institute was established in January 2009 by absorbing the Centre for Social Science Research (CSSR) and the Healthy Communities Research Initiative. It builds on the reputation and successes of the CSSR as one of Australia's leading providers of applied social research as well as the expertise and focus of Healthy Communities. The Centre's reputation has been earned through a 13 year track record of delivering quality research outcomes; extensive links with community, industry and government groups in Central Queensland and elsewhere; and the extensive range of social research infrastructure contained in the now Institute's Population Research Laboratory (including an in-house CATI - Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing - Lab).

Among a number of highlights, the last few years have seen the continuing success of the 10,000 Steps physical activity program and the consolidation of the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research. The omnibus Queensland Social Survey and the Central Queensland Social Survey remain at the centre of the large scale population based research program within the Institute and continue to offer a cost effective research tool for both community and academic researchers.

The IHSSR recently launched the Australian Health & Social Science Panel Study.

This combination of research underpins CQUniversity's commitment to research that addresses the real needs of the communities in which it operates.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries regarding our research activities.
